Ehemalige Bahntrasse des Maare-Mosel-Radweges

Quiet cycle rides along disused railways in Rhineland‑Palatinate

Photo: Dominik Ketz, Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH

Relaxing rides along disused railways are becoming increasingly popular. In Rhineland‑Palatinate, cycle paths along disused railways are best established in the low range mountains. The steam trains have bequeathed them to the cyclists. The routes are far away from road traffic, leading through virtually flat terrain amid unspoilt nature, through tunnels and over viaducts. The only puffing is by the steam locomotives of times gone by! The Schinderhannes and Ruwer-Hochwald cycle paths are in Hunsrück. The Maars Moselle cycle path leads from the Eifel to the Moselle. A companionable break at a cosy farmhouse café, friendly wine bar or water park is the highlight of any day, making Rhineland‑Palatinate one of the best places for cycling along disused railways.
