Estonia

Estonia - you should take plenty of time to get to know the Baltic state at the crossroads between Eastern Europe, Central Europe and Scandinavia. You will encounter a wild, unspoilt natural landscape shaped by water and a population that is as idiosyncratic as it is friendly, whose love for their own country simply has to be transferred to visitors.

In the land of water

Estonia forms the north of the Baltic region and borders the Gulf of Finland to the north, Russia to the east, Latvia to the south and the Bay of Riga to the west. The surface is characterised by glacial features and is flat to hilly. Bogs predominate in the east, while terminal moraines rise up to 318 metres at Suur Munamägi in the south-east.

Water is a characteristic element in Estonia: more than 1,500 islands make up almost ten per cent of the country's surface area, over 1,400 lakes and more than 7,000 rivers characterise the country. The largest lake is Lake Peipus, which Estonia shares with Russia. The largest islands are Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Important rivers are Narva and Pärnu. Almost half of Estonia is covered in forest - especially pine, spruce and birch.

Outdoor activities in Estonia

Estonia is slightly larger than Switzerland in terms of area, but is home to only 1.3 million inhabitants. In this sparsely populated country with its unspoilt nature, guests and locals alike find peace and relaxation.

The deep forests and moorland landscapes in the numerous national parks exert a strong attraction and recharge the batteries. On foot, on two wheels, on horseback or on the water - being active is always associated with impressive experiences.
