Snowshoe walks in Bavaria

In the Allgäu, for example, a snowshoe tour to the Steinernen Tor (Stone Gate) between the Imberg and the Kojenstein is a good idea. On this sunny and popular tour you can enjoy fantastic views over the high moor to the Hoher Häderich, to the Falken and over the peaks of the Nagelfluhkette.

If you want to start with an easy snowshoe hike, you can choose the short loop around the Ofterschwanger Horn. It is the ideal introduction to this sport. You can ascend and descend the tour with the mountain railway and then hike once around the summit. If you feel like it, you can make a short detour to the summit cross.

If you want to enjoy the first vegetarian hut in the Alps, you can take a snowshoe hike to the rustic Hündeleskopfhütte.

But a tour to the Sonnenkopf is also very popular. If you want to find untouched slopes here, you have to set off early.

The mountains of the Ammergau Alps also invite you to enjoy beautiful snowshoe tours. For beginners, a tour from Unterammergau via the Kolbensattelhütte to Oberammergau is particularly suitable. There, idyllic mountain forests covered in snow and beautiful white winter landscapes await you.

A hike to Lake Soila is also suitable for beginners. But experienced hikers will also get their money's worth: of course, there are also more demanding tours. One of the most beautiful tours in the Ammergau Alps is the snowshoe hike to the Stierkopf.

The Chiemgau Alps also inspire with beautiful snowshoe tours: discover the Höndlwand, one of the most spectacular mountain massifs in the Chiemgau. Another classic is the Sonntagshorn, the highest mountain in the Chiemgau Alps. From the summit you have an impressive view of the white mountain panorama.

But it's not just the Bavarian Alps that provide winter fun; there are also impressive winter hikes in the Bavarian Forest, only with fewer metres of altitude than in the Alps. Beautiful round tours to the Käseplatte, to the Bernhardsnagel or to the Schopf are waiting for you. Or you can hike through the snow across the Osser meadow to the Grosse Osser.

Wide expanses covered with snow make the Rhön a dream destination in winter. The low mountain range is popular with many visitors due to its location in Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia. You can climb up to 950 m high here – the Wasserkuppe is the highest mountain in the Rhön and a great vantage point.

You can also trudge through the deep snow in the Rhön as a beginner. Wrapped up thickly, you hike through snow-covered forests and open distances. At the end, warm drinks are served in the cosy huts to warm you up again.
