The top sights in Berlin on one tour!

You can also explore Berlin without a guided tour. If you prefer to travel individually and don't want to be dependent on a group and a city guide, simply set off on your own. The most beautiful sights of Berlin can easily be discovered on foot.

What is there to see in Berlin?

Alexanderplatz, Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten - these are just a few of the highlights you can't miss in Berlin. With the Berlin Mitte walking tour you will surely not miss any highlight of this exciting city!

A classic city walk in Berlin Mitte begins at Alexanderplatz with the famous Berlin TV Tower. If you want to get to the top, you have to book your ticket with the exact time in advance. From Alexanderplatz it is not far to Hackescher Markt and the Hackesche Höfen with their chic design shops. The tour continues across the Spree to Berlin's Museum Island, where there are five museums worth visiting, as well as the impressive Berlin Cathedral.

Passing the Humboldt University, the route leads to Friedrichstra;e, probably the most famous shopping street in Berlin. The famous promenade Unter den Linden leads to Pariser Platz and the Brandenburg Gate in the centre of Berlin. Just behind it on the right, you can visit the Reichstag with its characteristic glass dome.

Time for a break – either on the sunny banks of the Spree or on the spacious meadows in the Tiergarten, the large park in the heart of Berlin. You can walk through the Tiergarten to the Zoological Garden, the more famous of Berlin's two zoos. Or you can turn south to Potsdamer Platz with its modern architecture and numerous shopping opportunities. A few painted sections of the Berlin Wall still bear witness to the former division of the city.

On your way back, don't miss a stop at Gendarmenmarkt, perhaps the most beautiful square in Berlin. The imposing concert hall, framed by the German Cathedral and the French Cathedral, is a perfect photo opportunity. Return to Alexanderplatz through the small historic Nikolai Quarter and past the Red City Hall, where Berlin's mayor has his seat.

Tip for tired feet: The bus lines 100 and 200 take you between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten directly past the most important sights in the centre of Berlin and are much cheaper than any sightseeing bus tour!

What not to miss in Berlin?

  • Museum Island: All five museums on the island are worth a visit – Old and New Museum, Old National Gallery, Pergamon Museum and Bode Museum. Right next door, there is even more culture and history to discover with the Humboldt Forum in the Berlin Palace and the German Historical Museum.
  • The Tiergarten – not to be confused with the neighbouring Zoological Garden – is not a zoo, but a spacious park in the centre of Berlin. It's best to get an ice cream beforehand and stroll across the meadows!
  • Potsdamer Platz with numerous shopping opportunities and modern architecture
  • Hackesche Höfe: small designer shops, culinary delights and culture in the quarter's intricate back streets
  • Strolling along the banks of the Spree: Excursion boats stop at various stations, with which you can also experience the capital from the water

Tip: Explore Berlin by bike on the Wall Trail!

The Wall Cycle Route is one of the nicest ways to explore the capital, even away from the main tourist attractions. The route follows as closely as possible the course of the former Berlin Wall, which separated the west from the east of the city. Today, the traces of the division are barely visible in most places. Elsewhere they are very much in the foreground, for example at the famous East Side Gallery with its painted remnants of the Wall.

The Wall Trail can be walked, but it is most enjoyable by bicycle. The stages can be individually adapted thanks to excellent public transport connections.
