Forecast for Slovenia

Julian Alps

The highest mountain in Slovenia, Triglav, rises at 2864 m over the Julian Alps, and there are exactly 325 peaks above 2000m in the Slovenian part of the magnificent Alps. Many of the high mountains are part of the Triglav National Park and impress not only with high mountains and breathtaking views, but also with forest-covered plateaus and hiking trails through glacial valleys and between steep walls. The long-distance trails such as Juliana Trail, Slovenian Mountain Trail, Alpe Adria Trail and Walk of Piece are highly recommended for hikers that want to take it slow and explore the Julian Alps stage by stage.

Karavanke mountains

The Karavanke mountain range represent the longest mountain range in Slovenia and, in addition to viewing peaks, alpine pastures, valleys, gorges and waterfalls, offer a great variety of animals and plants. A special natural wonder are the blooming daffodils on Mount Golica, which cover the mountain slopes in spring. And the tip from the locals. If you want to have the mountains mostly for yourself, Karavanke would be the place

Kamnik Savinja Alps

The Kamnik Savinja Alps are a popular hiking destination with two of the most beautiful Slovenian valleys: the Logarska dolina with the Rinka waterfall and Jezersko. The famous Velika Planina alpine plateau can also be found in the Kamnik Savinja Alps. Visiting the most eastern glacier of the Alps at the foot of the Mt Skuta and the views from the summit of the panoramic Storžič are particularly beautiful.

Many more hiking areas in Slovenia

But not only the high mountains of Slovenia are ideal for long hikes. The low mountain ranges and even the smaller hills and the plains attract hikers. While the latter mainly features interesting themed trails, the low mountain ranges also convince persistent hikers. The paths, which are not too demanding, are also very suitable for families. Worth mentioning are the Pohorje Hills near Maribor with its peat bogs, waterfalls and wine roads or the Idrija and Cerkno Hills: a fairly steep low mountain range that is mostly covered by forest. In the hills of Škofja Loka, on the other hand, you hike across meadows and forests. Kočevje Region offers bear watching itinerires along the many hiking trails in the area through the primeval forests.

After a hike, a cosy rest is a blessing

You can find cosy accommodation in special accommodation for hikers, mostly in hotels. In the mountains you can stay in mountain huts and chalets.
